A Harry Potter Summary

Whoa, describing Harry Potter....that could be a BIG job, so I'll just give you the basics. The book starts off with the Dursleys, a boring, pretty stupid, average family. They have one son, until one night Harry arrives on their doorstep. Harry's life with the Dursleys is, to put it mildly, unpleasant, they don't like him and he lives in the cupboard under the stairs. One day a letter arrives addressed to him, the letters keep coming until finally a man named Hagrid arrives to deliver the message personally, Harry is a WIZARD!!! Cool eh? Harry's life changes from then on. He goes to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and makes friends. Oh, he also discovers he's famous in the wizarding world.....I won't tell you anymore because I don't want to ruin it for you....just READ THE BOOK!!!!!!

Wizarding Money

Okay, so here's the low-down on wizarding money. Wizard money is VERY different from our money. They have only three types of coins galleons, which are woth the most, sickles, which are the second highest-worth coins, and knuts, which are worth the least. There are 17 sickles in a galleon and 29 knuts to a sickle. You know, I've always wondered how many knuts are in a galleon, but the books have never said........

Some Important HP Characters

Here's a list of some important characters in the HP books........

  1. Harry Potter- No duh! He's the main character! Let's see, Harry's a Gryffindor. He's brave, loyal, kind, VERY good at quidditch AND he has a cruch on a girl named Cho Chang;) He has black hair and green eyes and a lightning bolt scar on his forehead. He has a pet owl named Hedwig and is best friends with Ron and Hermione.

  2. Ron Weasley- One of Harry's best friends. He's also a Gryffindor. He's funny, loyal, brave(except when it comes to spiders), very good at wizard's chess AND he has 5 brothers and a sister. He has red hair and a long nose. He's had 2 pets as of the fourth book, a rat named Scabbers and a small owl named Pigwidgeon or Pig.

  3. Hermione Granger- The other one of Harry's best friends and yet another fellow Gryffindor. She's smart, bossy, brave, a bit of a know-it-all AND a bit of an over-acheiver. She has bushy brown hair and she DID have big front teeth until the fourth book. She also has a mean, old, but smart cat named Crookshanks.

  4. Draco Malfoy- Usually known as Malfoy, Draco is and evil, mean, nasty Slytherin. He seems to take it as his personal mission to make Harry and Co.'s lives miserable. He has two ugly cronies Crabbe and Goyle. He has white-blond hair and uuummm and evil look about him!!!

  5. Rubeus Hagrid- Almost ALWAYS know as Hagrid, he was expelled from Hogwarts in his third year and is now the Keeper of the Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts. He first met Hrry when he took him from his parent's ruined house and to the Dursley's. Later he was the one who told Harry about Hogwarts and the wizarding world. He is kind of obssessed with dangerous animals and has a pet boarhound named Fang.

  6. Albus Dumbledore- ALWAYS known as Dumbledore or Professor Dumbledore, he is the headmaster at Hogwarts. A former Gryffindor, he helps Harry whenever he can. He has long silver-white hair and twinkling blue eyes, he's very tall and very old. He's always been nice to Harry, but there are rumors circulating that he is, in fact, evil because of an incident at the end of the fourth book.

A Brief Explanation of Quidditch

Quidditch, so far the ONLY sport of the wizarding world. You wanna know how it works? Okay, its complicated, there are 7 players(who play on broomsticks, in the air) who play with 4 balls. The balls are the quaffle, which the three chasers(like fowards) throw around and try to score with, the 2 bludgers, which hurtle around the field, trying to knock players off their brooms. The beaters try to keep the bludgers from hitting the other players with club-like bat thingys. The last ball is the golden snitch, which flies around VERY fast, its the job of the seeker to catch the snitch. Catching it earns 150 points and that team usually wins. There is also a keeper, who's job is to keep guard the nets. The nets are VERY tall posts with hoops on the ends of them where you score(picture a hoola-hoop on a stick). Each goal earns that team 10 points. The game is very fast-paced and dangerous and being athletically challenged and afraid of heights, I would NOT like to play it;)

For their descripitions, look in 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' a VERY good book, written by J.K. Rowling to raise money for a charity called 'Comic Relief'.
